We are currently missionaries at a Children's Home in rural Zambia, Africa.
2 weeks ago Joel starting have high fevers, trouble breathing, and scary shaking episodes. He was medically evacuated by plane to the capital, Lusaka, where he was admitted into the hospital for 5 days.
After many tests, they were unable to figure out exactly what is wrong with him. They thought it was a chest infection but after strong antibiotics he is not getting better and still has issues with breathing. The doctor describes his lungs as sounding "crackly".
Zambian healthcare is one of the worst in the world, and that is obvious. Our family doctor here in Zambia, who is an American expat, suggested that we fly back to America. Joel is now stable enough for us to fly (although he will need a wheelchair throughout the airports), so we are flying out tomorrow 11/6.
This journey has been very financially taxing on our family. As you may know, we don't get paid a salary for our job, we live strictly on donations from supporters. We were "financially responsible" before coming and had an emergency fund set aside, but this season has wiped it out. On top of everything going on, it would be a great blessing to not have to also worry about finances.
