Hello friends and family. As many of you are aware, Chris Blissett suffered a massive stroke while visiting Los Angeles about a month ago. Since then, he has been recovering and has reached a point where it is now feasible for transport back to New York.
The family believes it’s best for his recovery to have him undertake his rehabilitation back home in NY where he can be supported by his children, family and many friends. He has been cleared by the doctors for ground transportation as flying is not feasible given his condition.
Aetna insurance will not cover the transportation costs, as we have unfortunately learned is typical for many carriers. The sole purpose of this fundraising effort is to cover the transportation costs from the hospital in LA to the rehabilitation facility back in NY. We have been quoted a cost of $14,900 for the 46 hour trip by medical van, attended by a nurse and 2 drivers. Accounting for the 2.9% charged by GoFundMe ($14,900 x 102.9%) we arrive at our funding goal of $15,332.
Please note that this effort is being arranged by and has the full support of the family.
Next steps and what to expect:
- All funds from contributors for this effort will be collected through GoFundMe.
- Once Aetna approves the transfer and NY facility, we will execute the contract we’ve been sent by the transportation company.
- The releases between the facilities and transport date will be finalized.
- Upon release of the funds by GoFundMe, we will then initiate a wire transfer of the full funds to the transportation company.
- Confirmation will be posted here that all the arrangements have been completed.
- The transportation company will provide bed-to-bed transportation between the facilities.
- We would like to reach our goal as soon as possible so everything is in place once the transfer is approved.
