Hi, We're Kids Plant Trees, a not-for-profit organisation helping children and nature thrive together, across South Yorkshire (and beyond). Some of the ways we do this are:
- providing family friendly tree planting events and other nature based activities
- creating hedgerows, community orchards, wildlife-friendly gardens and more
- working with school pupils to improve their grounds for wildlife and themselves
- working with local authorities, 'friends of' groups and other community organisations to engage children and families in looking after and improving their local green space (for the benefit of nature and people)
Why donate?
Children are rapidly losing their connection with their local natural environments, particularly children from urban areas. Fewer than one in ten children regularly play in wild places; compared to almost half a generation ago (2012 Natural Childhood report, National Trust). Without this connection, they're unlikely to act to protect nature as they grow up - and with the natural world in crisis we need to nurture a new generation of nature guardians.
Spending time in nature is also proven to boost mental and physical health, as well as children's learning and development. There are many studies showing the many benefits, but we see it for ourselves every time we run an event. Children simply love being outside and interacting with nature - even the tentative ones, who aren't used to getting their hands dirty, leave our events with a big smile and eager to do it again.
We need your support to keep doing this important work, getting more children outside and improving their local green space (be that their school playground, a park or other publicly-accessible place).
We're so grateful for the donations we've received since we launched this crowdfunding page. We're keeping it going to allow our supporters to continue make donations when they can. Your donations help us do what we do by paying for essentials such as:
- trees, plants, soil and other materials
- spades, gloves and other equipment
- training for our team, e.g. First Aid
- admin costs, such as DBS checks for new team members and volunteers
Any amount you can give will be a huge help.
Alternatively, if you'd like to volunteer, or if you run a company and would like to sponsor a project, please get in touch.
Thank you!
Anna, Steph and the KPT team
