Getting better healthcare than VA care

Hello. My name is Rowan Mooney. I’m a medically retired Iraq War vet, an infantry line medic and Army sergeant, and the purpose of this GFM is to establish a fund source from which I may set up an account with a reliable healthcare program that will not be subpar, grossly negligent, discriminatory, or ineffective of my medical conditions as the VA has been since January of 2022.

Around the beginning of last year, I began to experience extreme inflammation in my pelvis and lower abdominals. I sought out care from the VA, and ever since it has felt like they’re more interested in my going away than actually helping me. The rare exceptions, healthcare professionals who genuinely want to help, are then prevented from doing so for what I believe is bad publicity. For the symptoms I have had since January 2022, I have been told it’s IBS, pudendal neuralgia, pelvic floor dysfunction, chronic non-bacterial proatatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia, levator ani syndrome, and pelvic floor myalgia. Rather than effectively treat the symptoms, though, the VA instead puts me on a cocktail of prescription medications when I was already on multiple medications and my hormone therapy as a transgender woman. And, of course, multiple people within the VA have tried to blame the symptoms on my being transgender by way of my hormone therapy.

I have had to metaphorically pull teeth to have testing or consultations done, and when those are done the VA has not once fulfilled the treatments if they’re outside of what the VA offers from a formulary or methodological standpoint. So I am left often times going to these appointments with hope only to have it dashed because the VA does not follow through. How, then, can they expect me to then place my health and my trust in their incapable butter fingers…?

Any help is appreciated, and I would be grateful for not only donations but also sharing my story as I will not back down and let the VA’s inadequacies curtail the progress I have made through my own hard work, dedication, and refusal to give up.
