An older recently homeless man living out of his car has a real chance to get back to work and a place to live again. I met Kev after driving past him every day by my work. I stopped by to offer him some food one day. He said hes got some grub but is running out of dog food. I asked about how he's keeping warm, he said he ran his car but is low on fuel and is saving whats left if it freezes. the next day (christmas day) i brought him some dog food and dog treats and some gas. He was quite thankful. Over the nest few days i learned about Kev just from bringing him coffee and conversation. He goes to the Beacon Community Centre multiple times a week to try to find work as a red seal mechanic (or anything) I learned this is new to him and hes really trying to get back into a proper life. He never asked me for a handout or begged. Well turns out he is very close to getting a job now with the help of beacon services and a local employer and so much depends on his ability to get to work, however his insurance ran out. I learned this when i offered him a heater and a place to park where there is a plug. He said he's safe where he is and should not move until its legal for him to do so. I know we cannot help everyone, but if kev misses this chance he will most likely get lost in the cracks and will not get out. He does not drink, smoke, or do drugs. he just wants a job and a place to live. A few of us managed to raise enough to get his insurance paid for a few months and a gas card just to get him until he can get his first check. Then when i took him to get insurance icbc told him he owes 1400$ and cant get insurance until after its paid. It has to be paid in full not on a payment plan. I felt pretty defeated and i'm more than sure he did too. So I'm asking for any help to get his done so this man can have another chance. I really wish i could do it myself but i still have my own family to look after and i cant really afford to do any more. I would be happy to answer questions as there is so much more to kev that i just cant put onto paper.
