Gettin Jiggy for Jaime- Dancing to Defeat ALS

Donation protected
My sweet friend Jaime has been a single mother of 3 boys (now ages 17-23) for the past 7 years and is currently living with ALS. I say that to give you some context into her current life situation, but it does not define her at all. Jaime is love. Jaime is deep and true love, and it radiates from her soul out into the world around her.

Jaime was diagnosed with ALS in February 2018 after several unexplained falls. The disease has progressed in her body quickly, and she can no longer move most of her body. She can talk, but is quite difficult to understand, so she uses an eye tracking computer to help her speak.

Jaime is cared for by her 3 wonderful sons. They take turns moving her body, helping her with her breathing machine, getting dressed, feeding her, giving her medications, and all the things a person needs to do that requires more movement than an index finger. Your imagination can fill in the gaps.

It is unfortunate that her Medicaid only covers about 2 hours per day of care at this point. The boys are doing the rest. Sebastian works full time to help pay the mortgage. Devon stays home all day to care for his moms many needs. Alex goes to high school and then comes home to relieve his brother Devan for a few hours. The boys (especially Devon and Alex) don't get breaks outside of the house. After 2 years of full time care, the situation has become incredibly difficult for every one of them.

Jaime needs more home health care than the insurance covers. We will use the money raised from the dance concert we are putting on and the donations from gofundme to get as many hours of additional care as possible. This is our first and most important cost to cover.

IF there is any additional money leftover, then we will address the next two issues:

The house is in disrepair. There isn't much income. Generous neighbors remodeled Jaime's bathroom with a special bathtub and toilet to meet her needs. Another neighbor keeps up Jaime's yard, and another washes her clothes. Her best friend Kathy washes, dries, and does her hair at least twice weekly. Generous people bring in meals. There is some help for sure, they just need so much more.

I am concerned about her middle son, Devon, who cares for Jaime for the most hours. He has given up school and a normal teenage life to be the primary caretaker. There isn't money to send him to culinary school when Jaime passes, which is his dream. If I could I would send Devon to culinary school myself, but I don't have the finances to do so.

Thank you for reading, and thank you for donating. It takes a village when it comes to situations like Jaime and her boys are in. Thank you for being part of that village.

Love,
The friends of Jaime Alsop Eblen
