Once in a while something happens that reminds you how fragile life is. Things can truly change in an instant. I was reminded of this a few days ago when my lifelong friend, Michelle Cox, was in a serious car accident while traveling in the Dominican Republic. She was taken to a local hospital with severe injuries to her pelvis and eye. She has been unable to move or eat.
After the accident, Michelle's father went to her immediately and her entire family has been working tirelessly to communicate with doctors both in New York and in the Dominican Republic to determine the best course of action. Doctors at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York have concluded that Michelle needs to return to New York for immediate surgery. The hospital in the DR is unable to perform the type of surgery she needs.
Now comes the challenge of getting her home.
Her condition requires that she be medevaced. As you might imagine, this is extremely expensive and unfortunately something that will have to come completely out of pocket. But she needs to come home.
Although we are all beyond grateful that she survived, her road to recovery will be long and frightening. Let's help her family get her back home so she can get the care she needs.
Sometimes life throws us some pretty major curve balls. And sometimes it just takes a little help from people in our lives to make it something we can bounce back from. If you are in a position to give (even a small amount), it will be so greatly appreciated.
For those of you who know Michelle, you know that she is quite possibly the kindest, most loving soul on the planet. Thank you for your help to bring her home!
