We are organized and led by medical students from across Illinois with a single, shared goal: get PPE to where it is needed most. All of the proceeds raised thus far have been spent on PPE, but as the nature of the COVID-19 pandemic shifts, so too must our focus. In Chicago, nursing home employees are being asked to care for patients without proper personal protective equipment. This endangers their lives, the lives of their patients, and those they come into contact with outside of work.
Now that Chicagoland’s hospitals have largely begun to see their supply lines reopen, we have begun to focus on assisting skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities. In order to be successful in this endeavor however, we will need further support from our community. With your help, we can get nurses and staff the PPE they desperately need and help them feel safe returning to work from the picket lines. We hope you'll support the expansion of our mission beyond hospitals as the community's needs shift.
Please support our mission to protect healthcare workers who are unable to protect themselves. If you are unable to donate, please share this page with at least 10 people by the end of the week. Every share and every dollar counts for saving lives!
Success so far:
To those that have already supported our efforts, we sincerely thank you! GetMePPE Chicago has delivered nearly 400,000 pieces of PPE to places in need across the greater Chicagoland area through contacts at over 300 institutions including nursing homes, homeless shelters, community clinics and hospitals. Our efforts have been received with an outpouring of gratitude from those we support, as it sometimes is the only delivery of life-saving PPE they might receive that week.
GetMePPE Chicago is an organization led by medical students from throughout the greater Chicago metropolitan area working to facilitate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) donations from community members to where it is most in need. Our team conducts daily needs assessments to have a comprehensive understanding of evolving PPE needs in our community. We have three primary means of acquiring PPE: i) requesting donations from community businesses and individuals, ii) fundraising through our GoFundMe to purchase PPE from suppliers, and iii) partnerships with DIY/Maker networks to manufacture PPE. We are proud to be regional partners of GetUsPPE, Boston Scientific, MedSupplyDrive, Masks4Docs, IMPACT and more!
GetMePPE Chicago has also partnered with the Crossroads Fund, a non-profit, 501(c)3 foundation that supports community organizations working on issues of racial, social, and economic justice in the Chicago area. This organization is represented by Ed Vogel who appears as the beneficiary of the campaign for this reason.
