Lisa Scott recovery and mobility
On 3 January, 2016, with the sun and wind in her face and expectations for a bright new year in her heart, Lisa and her husband set out on a short, 20 minute spin on their motorcycles. That ride was brought to a devastating end by an uninsured, drugged driver who crossed the center line and smashed into Lisa head on, severing her left leg near the hip and breaking both her arms on impact before continuing on to run Bo off the road and totalling his bike as well.
The driver was also on bail for another DUI that occurred some months prior on the same road. The van that hit her was niether registered or insured.
She's been in the hospital ever since. While Lisa and Bo have health insurance, costs for mobility devices, wheelchair lifts, ramps, and modifications to the house to make her home once again accessible are not covered by insurance of any kind.
Lisa is just a few weeks short of acheiving her Doctorate in Nursing Practice, and hopes to return to school and work as soon as possible. Once she is discharged from the hospital, the long road to reclaiming her life begins.
For the short term, once discharged, Lisa's needs will center around mobility and accessibility,at home, in her vehicle, and at work. Because there's not enough left of the resifual limb, she's not a viable candidate for current prosthetics, according to the surgeon, but advances are made every day. Until then, she'll need a little mechanical support.
In the longer term, Lisa and Bo pledge to help others, once they get back on track, so your donation will likely cascade through many similar, worthy causes.
