Some may have followed Twister's story from day one, but for those who haven't were going to tell you why Twister is so special to everyone here at Dusty Tails. While pulling some dogs from an extremely rural shelter that euthanizes so many dogs due to lack of space, we came across Twister. At the time, Twister was part of a court case, and that was somewhat his saving grace. Twister was brought into the shelter after a good Samaritan saw a group of homeless people beating Twister. Twister suffered some serious injuries to his back legs and his tail was cut almost to his back. Due to then being part of a court case, he wasn't allowed to leave the shelter until the courts decided his fate. During this time, Twister sat in the shelter, for weeks, and his injuries were treated to the best of the shelter staff's abilities but unfortunately, they did not have the means to properly fix his legs. In turn, his legs healed improperly in an almost twisted position and Twister became incontinent due to his tail injury. Although Twister suffered these injuries, when we were able to get him out of the shelter we immediately brought him to a vet to see what we could do to help him. With his injuries pretty much healed and what seemed like handfuls of vet visits and second opinions, it was determined that Twister did not need surgery but just some physical therapy to help him get used to his new body. Twister holds absolutely NONE of his past against anyone. This boy is the most loving and grateful dog we have met. For everything he's been through, he has no reason to trust people. But every day he continues to show the world how resilient dogs can be. If you didn't know Twister's story, and saw him at the dog park, you would have to do a triple take because he truly acts NO differently than a "normal" dog. He runs around without any assistance aside from the occasional boost with his harness when he gets tired from running around like a crazy man. Twister LOVES other dogs and LOVES his people even more. Twister may be small but his heart is larger than you could imagine. We rescued Twister over a year ago, and we knew when we took him on, it would be a very long and difficult journey to find his forever home, if we ever could. By some miracle, the most AMAZING family who followed Twister's story from day one decided they wanted to give him the best life imaginable. Twister is going to become a therapy dog for people in hospitals and will have several fur siblings to romp around with. Right now, Twister is located in Charleston South Carolina. His family now lives in Edmonton AB (Canada) At first, we weren't sure how we would get him there BUT we have an amazing village of supporters and have his trip lined up, his bags are packed, and he leaves in ONE week.
