Help me get to the 2025 Dragon Boat World Championships
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Kate and as lots of you probably already know, I have a passion for Dragon Boating! After my breast cancer treatment in 2017 a friend and a physio recommended I try it out to help my recovery and I completely fell in love with the sport.
Dragon Boating has given me a new found confidence, the opportunity to meet some incredible people and to take up once in a lifetime opportunities around the world.
This year, for the first time, the 2025 Dragon Boat World Championships have introduced a Breast Cancer category and after a tough day of heats, I have been lucky enough to be selected for a place on Team GB!
As this is a fully self funded event and the costs are mounting, I need a little bit of help to get me there and would appreciate any donations you could offer.
I will be required to purchase the Team GB kit, medical certificate, registration fees, travel and accomodation to training sessions in the UK as well as travel, accomodation and transfers to the event itself over 10 days in Brandenburg, Germany this July.
Funds raised will go toward all of this and any excess donations will be donated to a cancer charity.
I hope by taking up this opportunity, I can inspire others to give this amazing sport a try. The popularity of Breast Cancer (BC) teams is down to Don McKenzie, a Canadian Professor researching physical activity to support recovery from breast cancer surgery. He found Dragon Boating ticked the boxes and initiated the first BC DB team 40 years ago and there are now 300+ Breast Cancer teams around the globe!
I appreciate any donation, no matter the size. Thank you in advance for supporting an old lady and her dream!
