Get Theo to Treatment

Hi! My name is Devon. My 13 year old trans son, Theo, is currently doing an inpatient program for kids with PTSD. He has been recommended to go to a second program in October but there are steps we have to make first. Let me tell you a little about Theo, his struggles, and what we're doing now.

Theo has been through a lifetime of major Trauma. He lost his baby cousin to murder when Dayvid was 6 and he was 8. Not long after that, he lost two important adults in his life to suicide. Covid did a number on his already fragile mental health. He came out as trans just before 7th grade started. He also disclosed some traumas that happened to him when he was younger, things I had no idea about. 7th grade was a nightmare. He was bullied RELENTLESSLY and violently. Even by his supposed friends. He had to move his class schedule around to avoid a transphobic teacher. We ended up having to pull him out of school completely by the end of April. His mental health severely declined through all of this. I am a single mom with no coparent help from my kid's dad. I am only one person and I can only do so much.

By the time summer came around, his acting out behavior had escalated to unsafe levels. He was no longer safe at home and I was no longer able to do this alone. So, we worked with my parents to raise funding for a 3 month inpatient program in Oregon. So far, 60 days in, he's doing really well. It's so hard and he's doing a TON of work on himself. but I already see progress. Our family therapy sessions have been so productive. Difficult and emotional, but actually producing results! He got a psychiatric evaluation and was diagnosed with PTSD. They got him on medications to help his anxiety and depression while he does active working therapy to process his traumas and learn active coping skills moving forward. However, his therapist recommends that he go to another program to continue the work after this place discharges him at the end of September.

That's where you come in. My parents are no longer able to provide financial assistance in this matter. I have been directed to hire an Education Consultant. They do a ton of investigative work and know hundreds of treatment facilities around the country. They know way more about available programs and costs and outcomes than I ever could. They are willing to work with me on a sliding scale, but after the intake appointment. Intake is just under $800. Overall, their services cost $10,000. I'm working on selling my house so I can afford that and also his next treatment program. But I need to pay the intake fee up front. As I am unemployed, this fee is absolutely out of my reach. I need help to even get started helping my kid. He has been through so many traumas, so much abandonment, so much pain. he deserves a chance at a healed life. He's only 13! But if I don't get him the help he needs now, he's going to really struggle as an adult.

Insurance won't pay for this expense. They won't pay for his treatment out of state. Washington State has basically no inpatient programs for teens because by law, 13+ year olds can walk out of treatment and refuse care. So facilities just don't build here. I will be spending a LOT of money on his next step. But that's ok, I'll have the sale of my house to cover all of that. What I don't have right now is the money for the intake appointment. Any money raised over the initial $800 will go to put gas in my car to drive out of state to pick him up from his current program. If we go over $1000, that money will go towards gas and a motel room for me to attend Family Therapy 2-Day at his current treatment facility. it's a 6 hour drive to get to him from home.

Every penny helps! Every share helps! Please help me help my kid! He WANTS the help and is open to accepting it. I just need help paying for it!
