Hello Netrunner community! Let me ask you a question: what would the World Championships be without the current World Champ? That's right, a sham.
Joe Schupp dominated a field of 403 players on a beautiful September weekend in 2018. He bested a field of the worlds best players, including 2 previous worlds champs in the top 16, earning a spot for his name in the Pantheon of Netrunner greats. Joe has continued his storied legacy by winning the NISEI regional in Madison WI this year in July.
NISEI has done a phenomenal job keeping the game alive and even better has secured an amazing venue for the 2019 World Championships. It is great for the diversity of the community that it is in Europe, and open to a whole field of players that could not previously visit the United States to play in an event. What you may not know about Champ Joe is that he is just a poor college student. He will be graduating this year, but he does not have the funds to afford a trip to Europe to play in Worlds. This is where we, as a community, can chip in. Every Netrunner World Championship to date has had the prior year's victor in the field. Let's not end that tradition in 2019. Some years in the past FFG has been able to supplement overseas winners, but nobody could expect that from a fan run organization like NISEI. I think the event will be improved by the presence of Joe Schupp, and I hope you do too.
The money raised by this fundraiser will go towards getting Joe a plane ticket, securing a hotel, and if there is any money left beyond that, to pay for food during the trip.
Donating to this cause will be a boon to the World Championship event, and the Netrunner community at large. I know Joe will be very excited if he finds out he will be able to go to Worlds again. I think we as a community have the ability to pull together and get this done.
