We are the MTU Glór Choral Society - a registered, student-led society with Munster Technological University Cork, based in the Cork School of Music. In recent years we have had huge success as a choir and we are looking for support for our growth and development in 2024, which will include an international trip and a performance at Cork International Choral Festival in May 2024.
Glór Choral Society has grown from strength to strength since our establishment in 2019. Last May saw our biggest achievement in winning Ireland’s Choir of the Year Competition at the renowned Cork International Choral Festival. We have since been invited to compete in the prestigious Fleischmann International Trophy Competition at the Cork International Choral Festival next May 2024. Being a student society, our choir commends itself on inclusion and diversity. We do not audition and we encourage all students to join, regardless of their background or musical ability. We pride ourselves in making our rehearsals a safe space for all and to provide as much performance and education opportunities for all members. For many of our singers, they would find it difficult to create time to perform and bond with students with similar interests without the outlet that we provide. From speaking to our members, we have noticed the overwhelming sense of stress that the majority of our students face on a day to day basis. Many of our members rely on the choir to provide relief from this and value the society as a whole for the importance we put on students' mental well being and providing important social experiences.
Due to our continued success, our choir is ready to approach new challenges and achieve greater success and will be travelling to Vienna next March, performing in concerts and participating in workshops. We are so excited to represent our college, county and country in this international forum, under the guidance of our conductor, Caitríona Fitzmaurice. We cannot wait to perform exciting new repertoire and showcase the talent and dedication of our members. This trip will be the first time many of our members will get to perform outside of Ireland and we want to ensure as many of our members have the opportunity to avail of this.
This will be a big financial undertaking for us and we would like to keep the cost down for the 33 students travelling to Vienna next March. We would appreciate anything you can donate as each donation will reduce the overall cost for each and every member of the choir. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated by all of our members. Thank you!
