In this unique COVID-19 year, The Golden Bear Wrestling team persevered and claimed the CIF-SS Division I Dual Team Wrestling Championship over St. John Bosco (#2 Ranked Team in the state) with a 34 – 23 Victory. The Golden Bears have amassed 34 Consecutive League Championships, 38 C.I.F. Southern Section Titles, which include 20 Team Individual Tournaments and 18 Dual Team Titles over the 35-year history of the program. The Golden Bears have also claimed 3 Southern Section Masters Titles, and multiple top 10 finishes in the state.
We will be taking this exceptional group of young athletes to Utah in a week to wrestle in the Western State Championships. They will be participating in several competitions over the week. These competitions include wrestling Greco Roman Duals, Freestyle Duals, followed by 3 individual Tournaments in the 3 styles (Greco-Roman, Freestyle, and Folksyle). This experience will gain each wrestler approx. 15-25 matches depending on how they do. Having these extra matches is crucial to sharpening their skills in the midst of such a shortened athletic year due to covid-19. Most of all, the overall value of the experience of traveling with a team and getting back to work for the next year is priceless. We are hoping this experience will help our athletes to bring home a top 5 finish in the state in 2022!
We cannot do this alone and are looking for people who would like to give during these times to a good cause that will bring a good bang for their buck. Our goal is to shoot for $10.000 to help pay the cost of the trip. These costs will include Travel, Entry Fee for tournaments, Hotel, Food, and Gas. We are looking to take 21 Golden Bear Wrestlers and 3 Golden Bear Coaches. Please take a moment and help this amazing group of young men and women. No amount is too small!
