You may remember it as TC ballroom, TEAH, or the community's favorite, "Statements Furniture and Mattress" - Whatever you remember, we're bringing it back and better than ever!

Cabaret Arts and Social Theatre 501c3 is the Kansas City metro’s premiere incubator for performing arts education and community support through movement, dance, music and theatre.

We did our best to stay open in June and July of 2022 by promoting and supporting community-based events, and collaborating with event promoters, entertainers, and communities to spread the word and bring people together with one mission:

Create an extraordinary new vision for the local dance and theatre community.

Unfortunately, due to a misunderstanding and miscommunication regarding our zoning and permit classification, and the promotion of events that were a higher volume than we anticipated, we were forced to shut down by the City of Overland Park.

But we're coming back! And we can't wait to see you again!

Now, two months later, we have been permitted to reopen, with a few things made clear.

1. We are classified as an A3 Assembly space, specifically, a Dance Hall. If you've been here before, you already know we have an excellent floor for social dancing and community events - in fact, our veteran dancers remember that it was designed that way.

2. As an A3 Assembly space, we do not host or promote nightclub-style events, or events with more than 200 people in attendance. After our first few months, we learned we don't want to do that either, as such events put undue strain on our staff, and create more of a financial and infrastructural burden than we can support as a community space. As such, in the future, those kinds of events will not be hosted here.

3. If at any point we wish to upgrade our space so that we can host dinner theatre events and other styles of entertainment that go beyond those currently permitted, we will need to make some very expensive upgrades and get it approved by the city of Overland Park.

Now for the bright side.

We are taking this hiccup as an opportunity to make some aesthetic and functional upgrades to provide the comfortable experience you deserve from a community space, including...

The total fundraising need is $8,500 plus 3% to cover fees.

By making these upgrades before we reopen, we will be able to promote more group classes, social dance nights, showcases, and fundraisers so we can pay our hardworking staff and support the fundamental needs of this space.

Our stretch goal for this GoFundMe is $15,000, which we will use to upgrade our sound equipment and install a permanent sound system into the space.

Reopening Schedule:

We are working hard with our contractors and volunteers to keep the momentum going on upgrades. Provided we can come up with the funds necessary, we are looking at a tentative Mid-October reopen. C.A.S.T. Halloween Party? We hope so!

Upon our Re-Opening, we intend to hit the ground running!

Monday 8PM: Cabaroke - Musical Theatre Karaoke

Tuesday 6:30PM: Circus Night - Rotating Instructors

Wednesday 8PM: Cabaroke - Sing & Swing Karaoke

Thursday 7PM: Social Swing - West Coast Swing Night

Friday 7PM: Ballroom & Showcase Night (rotating events)

Weekends will host special community and private events which will be announced soon!

9050 Metcalf provides space to multiple arts businesses featuring many traditions, so we are changing our venue name to reflect that.

Social Cabaret is currently home to four core KC local theatre and dance performance and education companies, each of which has fabulously talented members. These companies are Body Language Curriculum, American Vaudeville Company, Cabaret Arts and Social Theatre, and The Ballroom KC.

Body Language Curriculum

Body Language Curriculum provides a better way to understand, communicate, and dance West Coast Swing. We believe that West Coast Swing is a language, and Body Language Curriculum is the best way to become fluent in the language of dance.
