This year, my Beck Middle School Project Invent team, Team Cherry Fit, competed for the first time in a first-ever middle-level design thinking nationwide competition, using microbit technology and partnering with our community partner, Nico Meyering, from Philadelphia, who suffers from CCHS.

My students were challenged to design an innovative, technology-based product to address Nico’s specific needs. Against tough competitors, our students competed against technology high schools from Silicon Valley, and prestigious Academies at the high school level across the nation, and not only won the New York Demo Day competition today, but was also awarded one of the seven available slots for the culminating trip, Future Fest, to California where they get to showcase their invention. They are the only middle school invited to attend! Future Fest trip pays for four students to attend, and we have seven teammates. That leaves three additional students that we need to make the funds up for. Each student additional cost is $1500. We are reaching out to our community for support in getting these 11,12, and 13-year-olds to fully realize the impact that their innovation has had for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

We only just found out that we need to fund raise the additional $1500 per student and our trip is June 8 until the 11th. We are looking to do a flash fundraiser for two weeks and raise as much as possible to get these kids to experience all of the recognition they deserve.

We know it’s not a lot of time, but any little bit you contribute will help to put one of our teammates into Future Feat. Thanks for all of your support. We will raise funds until June 4th. Thank you for helping us reach our goals!!

Update: unfortunately, we have had one teammate who has to decline going. This has decreased our funding needs by $1500. Which means we are nearly at our end goal! We are fundraising to $3500 instead of $5000. Almost there!!!
