Since the COVID-19 pandemic has intensified, Peru has taken drastic measures to close their borders.
Our dear friend and full time nurse colleague, Steve Cochrane from Peninsula Health is trapped in Peru. He is in Xima HoteI in the Peruvian city of Cusco. Approx. 1, 200km from Lima.
Lately other trapped Nationalities - Chinese, UK and Americans are being taken to Lima in order to get them home safely. We are trying to have DFAT assist in the repatriation of Steve but at this stage we would like to raise funds for him to purchase a $5,000 ticket to fly back to Melbourne. This purchase was suggested to us by DFAT and will pay for Steve's travel end-to-end from Cusco, Lima to Melbourne, Australia. The funds will be transferred to Steve's bank account to facilitate the purchase of his ticket.
Steve does not have the virus but is in a number of high risk categories due to age and underlying cardio-vascular problems. He has been in touch with our people in Peru but reports no help forthcoming.
The sooner he gets back, the quicker he’ll be able to re-join our nursing workforce and assist our community in beating this virus. If you can assist by donating money to this cause please do. We will keep you updated with any news (hopefully good).
Royce met Steve in the 1990's in Frankston and has worked with Steve at Peninsula Health for almost 20 years since.
