Sparky, the Giant Rideable Unicorn Art Bicycle, needs your help to get to Burning Man 2019 in Black Rock City, Nevada this Summer!
Sparky the Giant Rideable Unicorn is the creation of Ithaca, NY based artists Doug 'Nataraj' Shire and Laurence 'Radar' Clarkberg, a four-month labor of love for the communities that have supported us so much, especially that at Burning Man. It is a truly awesome piece of mobile art, standing some 12 feet high and covered with 6500 color- changing LEDs. Sparky was built to be able to support the weight of two adult riders in the saddle, and may be pedaled and steered by two participants down below using a modified bike cart with an electric motor assist.
Sparky has also been thoughtfully designed to be equally as attractive when experienced in the daytime, and invites participation by drawing on its fabric by 'petting' it. The tail is made from fiber optics, and the spectacular horn is programmed with constantly changing sequences of color spirals. The head is articulated, and easily moved by the rider holding the reins to create gestures and bring Sparky to life!
Here's where we need your help. Sparky has cost thousands in raw materials to assemble and build, and we have obtained a truck and trailer and a volunteer driver team to bring Sparky from Ithaca, New York to Burning Man - but, we need to raise funds for the roundtrip expenses, which we estimate at $2,500. A gift of any amount would be very appreciated, and could even help Sparky bring a bride to her wedding on the playa in the desert! :)
