Samantha turned 23 years old during her hospital stay. Her husband and her are both attending school and working hard for their little girl, Millie who is 10 months old. On Saturday May 19th, Sammy and Ryan went on a long awaited date dirt biking for her birthday. In a terrible accident, Sammy was close to losing her leg. She sustained one of the worst possible injuries she could have. Her left tibia was fractured completely, dislocating her knee as well. Due to the severe damage, the trauma surgeon had to remove her muscle from her calf and replace it. This leads to excruciating pain and long term healing. Because of the swelling, they are unsure about the damage to her ligaments and nerves. This will be re-looked at in 6 weeks and likely be another surgery. Her first surgery was 4.5 hours. The trauma surgeon at Utah Valley hospital came out completely exhausted and explained to us how difficult it was and the severity of her accident. Sammy will have at least 6-8 months of recovery including rehabilitation, and possibly a second hospital stay. She is still in the hospital and the medical bills are building up. Unfortunately, this injury will lead her to a loss of work and a delay in finishing her schooling. Her insurance is a very high deductible and we are unsure how things will go with her being taken via ambulance to a hospital not in her network.
It is with the most humble heart that I ask for any kind of donation to lessen the burden of this debilitating injury. My heart hurts for her and her little family. Medical bills and the loss of time at work is something I'm hoping we can come together to help her in the healing process.
