Get Roxanne Out of Texas, to a Better Life

Hello! My name is Roxanne, I'm a trans woman currently living in north Texas. As you are probably aware, living in Texas is becoming more and more perilous for trans people -- laws are being shotgunned through state legislature to deprive me of the ability to live comfortably in public. I have lived in Texas nearly all of my life; it was home to me for a very long time. As much as it saddens me to leave, there is very little left for me here, and I need to move on.

When do you need these funds?

My current lease expires in January, and I would like for the funds to be secure by the time the lease expires.

Why Philly?

With its robust queer community, the proximity of multiple friends, and a generally robust transportation system, living in Philadelphia will allow me to live as someone who lives in a community with other people; rather than being constantly isolated by Texas' vast distances, hostile infrastructure and inhospitable temperatures through much of the year. Additionally, many of my friends live in Philly, and I will have a good support system once I settle there; including my girlfriend, who I eventually want to live with.

What are the funds going to?

Things such as renting a moving van, surprise fees that my current apartment may spring on me after vacating, a few months' rent for a new apartment in case job hunting does not produce immediate results, application fees for said apartment, fees for government documents in Philadelphia (such as a Pennsylvania driver's license, for instance). $7,500 is quite a lot to ask for; but it will all be going to ensuring that a cross country move (expensive!) will go as smoothly as possible!
