Get Rolo the scans!

Hiya,

I’m Jessica and my dog is called Rolo. He is three years of age and I absolutely adore the bones of him. I have had him since he was a puppy. We got Rolo knowing at the time he had a “puppy heart murmur” and I promised to give him the best life possible.

Luckily for us his murmur had gone by his second lot of vaccinations.

Rolo has been demonstrating some behaviours, I’ve had dog trainers to support me but I have been working with dogs trust behaviourist for the last 5 months. My qualified behaviourist is confident Rolo is demonstrating pain, this could be gastro or it could be orthopaedic pain such as in his hips.

During the elimination process we have changed him from a complete raw diet to a vet specialised diet costing £70 for 7kg. He has been on calpol and omeprozel for two months. Both of these things have made a difference but not enough.

Rolo IS INSURED. He has been insured the whole time I have owned him.

Rolo had been referred to a specialist vets for scans and after spending the day there today, they filled information in that has meant his insurance pre authorisation has been declined.

The vets have agreed to change this information but due to Rolo demonstrating certain behaviours (which the behaviourist has said can be pain) the insurance has denied us a pay out for his scans. Our policy does not cover anything “behaviour” wise. I knew our policy didn’t cover behaviour but I wasn’t aware it wouldn’t pay out for demonstrating behaviours even if it could be pain.

We are at a loss after spending £320 today as our insurance won’t even cover the specialist appointment. We do not have the funds to pay for scans costing over £3000.

The anxiety and fear we have for Rolos future is unbelievable.

We have done everything we can to support him and rehoming him is not an option. We would never in a million years pass a problem on.

We are aware that the scans may show nothing at all but I’ve fought so hard to get to where we are. I want Rolo to have a good quality of life. I want him to enjoy high impact walks without it causing him pain later down the line.

If you can support us to get Rolo these scans which include a specialist to ultra sound him as well as other tests we will be so grateful.

If by some miracle we raise over our target, after getting Rolo a box of gravy bones we will donate the remainder to dogs trust. As dogs trust have done everything they can so far to support us and we’d love to be able to give back.
