Who's this for: My friend River (the handsome one pictured right).
What's going on: River was born with a form of spina bifida called myelomeningocele (my-low-meh-nin-juh-seal). To keep it short and sweet, he needs a wheel chair to get around.
Over the course of his life, River has lost much of the feeling and function of his lower extremities. Until roughly five years ago, he enjoyed hiking, camping, walking his dogs daily, gardening, horseback riding, and soaking in the beauty and wonderment of the Pacific Northwest. As River's physical condition worsened, so has his mental health. Not being able to stay active and enjoy the outdoors has taken a toll, especially since the start of the pandemic.
Recently, River has discovered a way to get back into his groove: The Grit Freedom Chair. This all-terrain manual wheelchair has an innovative design allowing riders to tackle and conquer rougher terrain than your common sidewalk. Rocky trails, sand, snow, mud, and gravel paths will become more accessible with a chair built for the challenge.
After much research, River found the model that best suits his needs is The Spartan Grit Freedom Chair as it's the toughest one for the trails. Please check out their site and read more about The Sartan model here: https://www.gogrit.us/grit-freedom-chair-spartan-chair

Below is a quote for the Spartan model Products & Services package that fulfills River's needs:

Some people have asked, "What about insurance?" and that's an understandable question! However, as the Grit Freedom Chair is classified as a "recreational" wheelchair, it is not billable to River's insurance.
Now, here's the part where we're asking for your help!
Because The Grit Freedom Chair would open up many doors for River that previously appeared shut forever, we're asking for donations (in any amount!) to purchase a chair that will give River back the independence to wheel around freely in his own neighborhood - especially since *none* of the sidewalks immediately surrounding his home are ADA accessible. Any amount you can donate is appreciated - or, if you're unable to donate your money, you can donate your time by sharing our GoFundMe on your page!
Thank you for reading! River and I are so grateful for any and all support (especially when we know times are tight for most).
