Holly, a woman in her 60s who lives between the U.S. and San Miguel de Allende, has rape-caused expenses that she simply cannot afford to pay. A wrinkle to the ongoing investigation requires a lawyer who specializes in violence against women, without whom a conviction is uncertain. Five court appearances are expected at a cost of $5000 MXN ($257 USD as of today's exchange rate) for each lawyer appearance. Five court dates will total $25,000 MXN ($1285 USD) in attorney fees. Holly also requests help with transportation costs and an interpreter for the process, as everything is in Spanish. She is required at the police station frequently, and this stretches her finances thin.
