Get Pickle the Cat Out of a Pickle:Pelvic Recovery

Tax deductible
‘Tis the season for miracles, right?

Introducing Brookland’s Pickle (since this girl was in quite a pickle when I found her in my neighborhood in DC on 12/09). From her spot in the bushes, she was meowing nonstop, obviously in pain. I grabbed a box from a nearby business and scooped her up for transport.

I spent ~12 hours at the emergency vet with Pickle. I learned she has a fracture on each side of her pelvis. We do not know the cause of these injuries--whether it was an accident or on purpose. She’s an adult cat, estimated to be between 3-5 years old, but she only weighed 4 lbs when found.

Initially, we weren’t sure if she was viable as a rescue, but she quickly demonstrated that she can maintain her bodily functions despite limited mobility. She’s extremely friendly, loving, and very snuggly. There's clearly something special about this sweet girl!

Her road to recovery requires a major surgery: repair to one or both of her pelvic fractures. My sister and I spent a few days reaching out to different clinics to get quotes and availability, and we’re moving ahead with the procedure at Veterinary Orthopedic Sports Medicine. Surgery is expected to be on 12/20 or 12/21.

The base cost of her surgery is $5,500 and with blood work, additional x-rays, consultation fee, and post-op check ups, the fundraising goal is $7,500.

Please support Pickle's surgery through a tax-deductible donation through Tails High, a local cat rescue and nonprofit. All of us have been in a pickle before and could use a helping hand, and this is Pickle's biggest need for a healthy future.

Thank goodness she cried for help, and thank goodness for each of you who will lend a hand.

If you donate $30 or more, you'll receive a special printed photo of Pickle in your thank you card. Thank you in advance for your help with getting Pickle out of this pickle.
