Patricia (Pat) Kennedy has been a good friend of mine for over 30 years. I‘m representing so many others who are, and have been graced by her friendship and generosity. Among other things, she travels as a therapist for the Red Cross to disaster areas to help those suffering from loss. Pat has always been very active. Years ago, she was a member of the Thunderbirds Roller Derby team, and, until recently, hiking replaced that very demanding sport along with, cycling, and enjoying the beauty around her..
On March 25, 2018, Pat was walking near Crescenta Valley Park in Glendale when a massive oak tree fell on her. It happened in a split second and there was no time for her to escape. It was such a freak accident that it made the local news. It took rescuers 30 minutes to be able to extricate her. Both her legs were crushed as well as her left hand.
After numerous surgeries at two hospitals, it was necessary to amputate her left leg. A metal brace is screwed into her right leg, rather than a cast because skin grafts were needed. And there is a cast on her left arm. Pat is currently at a rehab facility in Sylmar, CA.
Despite this devastating tragedy, Pat is a fighter and she’s determined to eventually walk with the use of a prosthetic. However, it will be a long process of recovery. She really looks forward to the time when she can go home but for her to do that, she needs to have a wheelchair ramp built and some modifications to her home to allow for wheelchair access. None of that is covered by insurance.
I am asking you to help with whatever amount you can donate, (no amount is too small) towards getting Pat back home. And I am also asking that you pass this GoFundMe page on to as many people as you can, especially your Facebook Friends. Our goal is $7,200; the current estimate for the modifications needed.
