Help Get Our Soccer Team to Sydney!
On behalf of the Broadwater P&C Association, It is with great pleasure that we announce that Broadwater’s small school soccer team, against all the odds, has made it into the semi-finals of the NSW PSSA small schools soccer tournament which will be held in Sydney on the 20th of September. This is a huge achievement from our students who really do champion the attitude of ‘never give up.’ To get to this point, the soccer team has progressed through four rounds of competition, winning the quarter final 5 – 3 to secure their spot on the big stage! As you can imagine, this has been a real boost to our students, particularly following on from the momentum and inspiration of the Matildas. We are hoping for our students at Broadwater school get to have their very own Matilda’s moment in Sydney playing at the Valentine Sports Park.
Broadwater Public School is a small school of just 54 students. In February last year, our school was decimated by the major flooding event in the Northern Rivers. Since that time, we have been set up as a pop-up demountable school on a temporary site in a different community 15 minutes from our town. The cost of rebuilding homes and the emotional impact of the
flooding continues to have a significant impact on our families. A year and half on from February floods, we still have many families living in homes that are
construction sites, caravans, and some are still unable to return home.
Unfortunately, our community is still recovering, and many of our families cannot afford the trip. These students grit and determination over the past year is really something to be in awe of, and they have worked hard to get to this point. We feel they really do deserve to be able to attend together as a team. As such, we have decided to combine this trip with our senior class excursion to make the most of this amazing opportunity. With a return date of sometime next year before we can return to our school, this trip to Sydney will be a positive experience, particularly for our year 6 students who will not get the opportunity to return to our school.
We are asking people to please assist us in getting our team to Sydney by donating to our Go Fund Me page. All proceeds will be given directly to the Broadwater Public School P&C to reduce the financial cost for families.
