Hi everyone! My name is Lex and I am the founder of Panama Paws Dog Rescue and we need your help. We have an emergency. One of our foster babies Opal (that we are fostering through my rescue) swallowed a squirrel stuffy about 2.5 weeks ago and now has a foreign body stuck in her stomach.
Since then she has vomited up the tail of the squirrel, but not the darn head of it :( She has swallowed stuffies 2-3 times before and has always vomited them up within 1-3 days. So we thought for sure that this would be the case again. We have been checking every single stool of hers since and nothing! She has been throwing up yellow bile almost every morning, a few times in a row.
Just to be clear, we do not allow her any stuffed toys since learning she eats them, however, this stuffed squirrel was tied very tightly to the rope of the "flirt pole" we use to help her satisfy her prey drive. I looked away for a minute and she had gotten it loose and swallowed the whole squirrel within seconds. We will not be using the flirt pole again with such a small stuffy that can be swallowed ever again! Trust me! Lesson learned!
I took her in today to get an ultrasound to see where the foreign body was and they located it in her stomach. They will try to induce vomitting and if that is not successful, they will try to go in endoscopically. This is where they enter through her mouth with a scope, down her throat, and into the stomach with a camera and a grab device attached to the end of the camera. If they go in endoscopically she will have to be put under full anesthesia. And if they are able to grab the object, this is a way better option than having to cut her stomach open.
I am so sorry this happened and all I want to do is help her get this foreign body out of her.
Every contribution, big or small, matters. Even just a few dollars can help with Opal's emergency procedure. We just want her back to normal where she is not vomiting bile every morning and feeling very nauseous on an empty stomach.
If you can’t donate right now, sharing this fundraiser is also incredibly helpful. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. It means the world to my small rescue and especially to Opal.
I will update as soon as I can. Any left over donations go immediately into our emergency rescue funds, which we are always in need of. Thank you.
