Hi my name is Claire and I'm fund raising for my son Shayne . Shayne has just turned 16 and always been the most active determined child your ever meet , Shayne hasn't had an easy child hood he really struggled at school with anxiety and was diagnosed with ADHD , and has battled with an eating disorder Arfid . At the beginning of 2024 Shayne had a x ray done of his left leg and it showed a shadow on his Shin bone , he then underwent numerous scans over the next few months which showed it was growing there was no outwards signs and he had no pain from it , In October 2024 it was agreed that Shayne should have a CT Biopsy to rule out Cancer . On the 22nd November Shayne went in to hospital for the procedure we were told all went OK and he was discharged home , the next day the wound was leaking significantly so I took Shayne to the GP and they changed the dressing again was told was OK, the next day Thursday Shayne had the feeling of pain and pressure in the back of his leg I called the hospital and they asked me to take him to a & e at our local hospital, Shayne was seen by the Orthopedic doctors several hours later by this time his leg and foot were a purple colour and Shayne had numbness spreading up his leg , Shayne was admitted and 12 hours later they said he had compartment Syndrome by this point Shayne had no feeling from his knee down , they operated and performed 2 Fasiostomy ( they cut him knee to ankle on both sides of his leg ) they washed it out and removed some decaying muscle , this was then left open for 2 days to relieve the pressure , on the Sunday they operated again to close his wounds he had 57 Stitches Shayne was quite poorly at this point having undergone 2 major operations in 4 days , Shayne was kept in hospital for several days after never once did he cry or feel sorry for himself just said will be OK but it wasn't unfortunately the feeling in his leg wasn't coming back . Shayne over the next few months has under gone nerve studies , scans and various tests , Before all this happened Shayne was a keen Kyack Paddler doing amazing well becoming national champion in his division 2023 . 2 days before Shaynes16th Birthday we were given the deverstating news that Shayne has suffered permanent Post Surgical Neuropathy resulting in permanent Paralysis of his Sciatic and Femoral nerves , Shayne is now Paralysed from the top of his thigh down in his left leg and will need to use a wheel chair for the rest of his life , our lives have changed forever , however Shayne has just seen this as the ultimate challenge and has no intention on it stopping him achieving his sporting goals, he now is going all out to be the best he can in ParaCanoe already being accepted for the ParaCanoe Junior Academy. Shayne also has given talks on how disability shouldnt stop you there is always a way, I can't tell you how proud of Shayne we all are , I am doing this go fund me page to try and raise money for a motorised bike attachment for his wheel chair to try and get Shayne some independence back and make his life more accessible. Nobody should have to go through what Shayne has over the last 6 months especially not a child but it shows with the right mental attitude you can still achieve your goals so please help us get Shayne out there
