Help Get My Students to the Forest!
How can we encourage the next generation to take responsibility for rescuing our natural world that is so quickly vanishing? Without exposure to nature, it is hard to be invested in it.
My students would love the opportunity to go to a forest. Many have never been to one and others have loved their experiences camping out or adventuring. In their words:
"I would like to explore new places."
"I'd learn more being in a forest than looking at a screen."
"You can ask more questions. There would be insects and animals."
One of the barriers to experiencing the outdoors in New Jersey is affordability. Working families may not have the time or transportation to visit the State forests.
The New Jersey School of Conservation (SOC) is an amazingly beautiful environmental center in the middle of Stokes State Forest . Their environmental training is all outdoors and their workshops are wonderful. The school is supplying a bus, lunch, and supervisory teachers.
My co-worker and I would like to take 40 students on a one day trip to the SOC. They charge $57 per student for the facilities and training. To make the trip affordable to students who have limited opportunities to explore the outdoors, I am asking for your help to supplement the cost for each student. Any donation, no matter how small, will help!
