On 9/21 my dad was riding his electric bike down the street in New York when someone in their vehicle flung open their car door without looking. There was not enough time for him to react causing him to slam into the door and then hit the ground with enough force to cause severe brain injuries. He has multiple skull fractures, brain bleeds and clots.

He was rushed to Jamaica Medical Center in New York and was put into a medical coma to treat his condition. As of today he is still in critical condition and being monitored diligently for progress.

The doctors are anticipating his recovery to be long and extensive with a high chance of permanent disability.

My dad is only 56 years old and was as healthy as can be.

Me and my brother flew out from Orlando Fl immediately to be with him and be able to sign off on any medical consents. We are the only immediate family he has and therefore makes us his primary caretaker until he can hopefully be on his own again.

We have been in New York since the accident but unfortunately we have to return home to Florida which means he would be alone making it extremely difficult for us to be there for him the way we should be.

His insurance is currently covering all his medical care but will not pay for a medical transport so I can get my dad close to home in Orlando.

The price is out of budget for us and we don’t know what else to do.
