Hello for those who don't know me my name is Morgan I'm 35 I have 3 beautiful girls and 2 dogs. Life was good! I had a new job that was a dream for me. We were going to buy a bigger house and everything was perfect. Friday September 29th 2023, I went to work and had a normal day. Saturday September 30th 2023 I woke up and went to get out of bed but I couldn't feel my feet and my legs were all pins and needles. I spent that weekend trying not to panic, and on the following Monday (Oct 2 2023) I called the doctors office, it took a few more day to actually get in to see a doctor. When I went in he asked me the standard questions and poked me with a needle to see if I could feel, I couldn't but the doctor said it was probably just from my menstruation and that it probably wont last. Friday October 6 2023, I got a call from the doctor, he had called a Neurologist in Saskatoon who had advised me to go to the hospital in Saskatoon eminently to be checked out by the neurologist. For those who don't know Saskatoon is a good 3 hours from me. So off we went. They did a bunch of the the normal test poking me to see if I feel and how much I could feel and how far up my legs it went. Then they told me they suspected that I had Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) they waned to do a spinal tap to confirm it. I just seemed to be getting worse less feeling and I was extremely lethargic. The Neurologist came in and said they didn't have the test results back yet but that she was making the decision to start me on IVIG treatment. I was given 3 rounds of the IVIG treatment over the next 2 days. I felt better that's for sure but the results came back negative for GBS but the treatment seemed to help I was still tired and couldn't feel my legs but the Neurologist said that it could take some time before I could walk again but she believed that with time I would be back on my feet. Monday October 9th 2023 Thanksgiving Day I was determined to go home they hooked me up with a wheelchair and medications and home I went for pumpkin pie and a good sleep in my bed to be able to go to work the next day. I was determined to get back to my life. It took some time and work but by December 2023 I was able to get my butt out of the chair and with the help of a cane I was able to walk, kind of. I did my best to work as much as I was able to but I was having trouble keeping up and ultimately had to take some time off to regain my strength. December 7th 2023 my kids had their Christmas Show and my youngest was going to be in it for the first time! I wanted to have a rest so I would be rested to go, so I thought I would watch a cheese Christmas movie and have a rest in bed. My body had another plan. I had my first seizure one min I was watching a really bad Christmas movie and the next I was frozen. I don't no how much time went by I couldn't move. I could hear though. I heard my kids trying to "wake" me I heard my Husband trying to wake me and then I heard the panic in his voice as he called 911. I could her new voices the paramedic's where in my room. I could hear them talking making a plan on how they were going to get me out of my bed and to the ambulance. I tried so hard to move but it was like every mussel was frozen solid. I was terrified why wouldn't I move. I remember being at the hospital and them trying to get an IV started but were having trouble. but I couldn't feel anything. After giving me some meds I was able to speak and soon after I was able to move again. I went home the next day. As scary as it all was I was ok and went back to trying to get my life back. Nothing like that episode happened for month I thought it was a one time thing and it was nothing to worry about I had appointment with the Neurologist and everything was looking good again. February 2nd 2024 I was at work when I sick and weak. I made my way in to the back office where I collapsed my body felt strange like it wasn't my own, a coworker saw me and came to my aid and called for help I couldn't move again and I couldn't see, but I can hear. It was like I was in a tunnel and there was some distance between me and the voices. Then I heard my husband and It was like the light slowly turned on I could see but my head felt like it was going to explode. Between my husband and some coworkers they got me into my office chair and rolled me to the vehicle, and off to the hospital we went. I had multiple seizures that day it took medication to get them to quit. I had multiple seizures a day and then it slowed and went to 1 to 2 a day, then only one a day and then they slowed to every other day then one every few days. May 1st 2024 I went to RUH in saskatoon and where I spent some time on the Epilepsy ward. They hooked me up to all these probes and monitored my brain until I had a seizure witch didn't take long as I was very worried about not having a seizure and being there for days. They were able to give me a diagnoses of Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) with Physiological Non-Epileptic Seizures (PNES). It's basically if you think about your body as computer where the brain is the hard drive and your limbs and basic functions are all apps added on after and there is a miss connection from the hard drive to the apps. I went to therapy weekly and met with my family NP and worked to figure out my "new" life. With FND it can effect everyone in many different ways, some people get back to their normal and stay that way for years without a "Flair up". So there was a positive to work towards.
Fast forward to May 24 2025. I had a seizure but after this one I didn't bounce back with rest. Moving was difficult and the more I tried to walk the weaker and more pain I got. I fought it more a few month but I gave in and had to go back into a wheelchair and it seems like this is just what my life is now and I have to learn how to adapt to be all I can be for my girls. Saskablities was generous enough to provide me a basic chair and it has helped me so much I'm actually able to go to the kitchen if I need a drink and be a part of my family again. However this chair still limits me as the foot plates are out to far and my feet bang into everything and in order to do simple tasks like washing dishes or making dinner I have to take them off but then I run over my feet because I don't have the strength to hold them up. I need a better chair and in order to get one i will have to buy it and well they are not cheap. I found a cheaper one that will fit me but it is still way more then I can afford. So I'm swallowing my pride and asking for help.
Thank you so much in advance, I can't express how much your generosity means to me and my family.
