As some of you know, my mom has had a VERY rough road the last 3 months. On 12/23/24, in Orlando, FL, on vacation, she had a small heart attack. On 1/6, she had an open-heart triple bypass surgery. On 1/7, she had a major/massive cerebellar stroke. On 1/11, she had an emergency craniotomy (open skull surgery) to remove areas of swelling and to save her life. She has worked very hard to do physical therapy and everything within her ability, necessary to make progress…yet despite all of her hard work, Medicare through Humana continued to DENY EVERY SINGLE INPATIENT REHABILITATION FACILITY!!! Literally EVERY doctor, nurse, psychologist, and medical professional agreed she needed intense inpatient rehab to have any semblance of a normal life again. Finally, last week, she was accepted to RIM at DMC (a nationally recognized and accredited rehab facility) and Medicare APPROVED it!!! Then came the CRUSHING BLOW: Medicare provides no coverage for a medical transport, and a medical transport flight (from every provider I could find) would cost around THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! Payment would be needed upfront and out of pocket. Impossible…no one offers financial aid or monthly payments. Finally, upon reaching out to Senator Elissa Slotkin, her office provided me with some transport resources, and I was able to find a medical transport from FL to MI. Again, Medicare through Humana REFUSES to cover any of the cost.

I always saw and heard how people need to crowdfund for medical reasons, and I always tried to contribute what I could to help them…I NEVER thought I would be the one having to resort to crowdfunding for the same reason. I am sad, depressed, angry, livid, and all the other feels over this. So today, I am humbly asking for your help to get my mom home and into rehabilitation. We appreciate ANY help you can provide.
