Michael MacDonald is a 30 year-old single father of two young girls living an active lifestyle on the central coast of California. He enjoys spending most of his time outdoors tending to his vegetable garden, raising his farm animals, and singing Disney songs with his two daughters, Maddelyn and Chloe.
On November 18th, 2021, Mike was vacationing in Hawaii when he suffered a life-altering accident. This event has left him with spinal cord damage that has severely impacted his ability to walk and other critical aspects of his life, specifically spending time with his two beautiful daughters. In addition to his spinal injury, he has a compound fracture to his right arm, several breaks in his left arm, and internal complications to his spleen, liver, and right kidney. As of this moment, Mike’s future and the possibility of being able to walk again is unknown.
Mike’s health insurance will not cover the majority of his necessary medical expenses, and therefore any contributed funds will go directly to ensuring a full recovery.
Immediate and upcoming expenses include:
- Spinal surgery and reconstructive surgery for both arms
- Trauma care
- In-flight RN and airline transportation fees for Mike’s return to California
- Rehabilitation therapy (speech, occupational, physical, and mental-health counseling)
- Medications, long-term care equipment, and transportation fees
- Home health care products and services
- Home modifications and renovation costs
- Unforeseen living expenses and lost wages
These are only a few of the many expenses involved in the extensive road to a successful spinal cord rehabilitation. Mike understands the severity of his situation, but his ultimate goal is to be able to hold hands and walk with his girls once again.
The family is open to any help they can receive during this difficult time. Thank you so much for taking the time to read his story. Mike and his family will be sharing updates about his recovery frequently, in addition to upcoming expenses and other financial needs. Please do not hesitate to reach out for any further questions you may have.
