10/29/2023: I wanted to send a note of gratitude to this community who came together to create such a meaningful experience as we continue to grieve the physical loss of our dear Paul, especially for Lee as he navigates through profound loss. It was powerful to be immersed in all the gifts Paul left us through his music as well as his love. I think he left it all out there in every chord, ever so thoughtful of text. His heart was truly in his music and to hear it in a church packed with people who loved him and for whom that love was returned was overwhelming. As grief continues to unravel, I invite everyone who loves Paul and Lee to continue to approach life with sensitivity, curiosity, authenticity, the way that Paul inspired us to live.

10/18/2023: In just over a week, we will come together to honor the life of Paul Nicholson. Thanks to each of you, we are able to offer beautiful memorial concert to honor our dear Paul in the truest way through music and community. None of this could happen without your generosity. Thank you for coming together to make this happen so that we can share Paul’s gift with everyone who loved him, especially Lee and Paul’s family. The gifts Paul left us are present in the friendships  he built through music and the many lives he touched through his gentle spirit. While the pain of losing such an incredible person has not subsided, I find comfort in the gifts he left me, many of which I am still discovering as I reflect on my own friendship with Paul. I hope you are able to recognize your own gifts from Paul and find that comfort as well. I am sharing the link for those of you who are unable to be there in person on an October 28, 2023 at 1:00 pm CST

9/15/2023: A little over a month has passed since we said goodbye to our dear friend Paul. It has been heartwarming to see donations come in such a short amount of time. This is evident of Paul’s love that surrounds everyone left without his physical presence. Paul was great at taking care of others in such simple and quiet ways. I reflected today how he treated musicians and made sure they had everything they needed to bring their best. This memorial concert is brining almost 100 musicians together to honor Paul in a way that is authentic to everything he was and is to each of us. In true Paul fashion, we will be providing food for all musicians to make sure they are cared for and fed, as well as caring for all loved ones with a reception for everyone who is able to be at the memorial concert. I’ve edited the fundraising goal to reflect the needs of the cost and I am asking for folks to to share this post as we continue to be a source of comfort for Lee and for each other.

In Warmth,
Ali

After a nearly 2 year battle against Leukemia, which Paul fought with grace and courage, Paul succumbed to his illness on August 13, 2023. Paul can be described as a loving husband, faithful friend, trusted colleague, gifted musician...the list goes on and on. We intend to memorialize Paul with a beautiful concert to pay tribute to the gifts he left with each of us. As we honor Paul, I would like to invite you to make a donation to support efforts in making this memorial as beautiful as Paul was for so many of us left behind. This is a baseline estimate of costs for musicians, food and venue. Anything that goes over the costs will help Lee manage the financial burden of losing a spouse and the aftermath of financial toxicity as a result of this awful disease. We thank you for your kind, generous support as we continue to grieve the loss of our beloved Paul Nicholson.
