Get Marty into a Nursing Home

I know I’m asking for a lot of money. I’m not being greedy. Nursing homes are expensive.

I thought that putting Marty into a nursing home would be a smooth transition but the government has other ideas. Apparently there are some upfront costs that my research didn’t revel. Oh and my old SUV is about to crap out. No it cant be fixed, it has to be replaced

So the government has this program called medicaid that would provide for Marty’s long term care. He qualifies, I checked. But they won’t accept the application until he’s in the nursing home. Part of this application process would establish me as a “community partner” so that I can keep his Social Security Disability Income to pay rent. Without it the nursing home takes his income to pay the bill, leaving me with $70.

Convoluted, I know. I need to be able to pay bills and expenses for about 2 months while the application goes through. $3,000 per month is not much to live on but I manage it. Food pantries don’t provide complete meals and very little in the way of meat. Gas is expensive especially with my giant SUV.

It's a 2002 Ford Expedition. I originally got it because Marty fit into it. The engine is leaking oil and antifreeze into each other. The main seal on the engine is going bad. It's going to go soon. Also it shakes when I accelerate. Could be the transmission or the front end. Either way the cost of repairs exceeds the value of the car by several times. I would like to downsize to something like a Rav4 or a minivan. I need to fit the walker in the back and I’m not a small person myself. I’d expect something that size to get better gas mileage as well saving me on expenses.

So that’s the gist of it. I’ll be so grateful for any donation you can give. I know times are hard for many of us. I’m seriously looking at being homeless in a broken down SUV. Please help me avoid that.
