Hello, my name is Madison Wagaman and I've been dancing for 12 years now. I've wanted to be a professional dancer since day one, no doubt in my mind. This dream has filled me with passion and drive to always challenge myself to think about my movement more deeply. Although my love for dance is priceless the financial aspect of it is not.
Colleen and Mark Wagaman have worked tireless hours to help support my dance career growing up. Using every penny possible and volunteering to make ends meet, they have been my rock. Their hardship, love, and dedication has never gone unnoticed. I couldn't let them do it alone. At the age of 14 I started cleaning studios, working events, and doing everything possible to cover remaining expenses. Even with these efforts in place eventually they could no longer provide. This did not stop my drive for my art. I went on to graduate early and acquired a work-study position at Visceral Dance Chicago. Here I clean studios during early mornings in exchange for professional classes.
On top of work-study I'm also committed to teaching at 3 studios and working at Allegro Dance Boutique. Basically if I'm not at the studio training I'm working 7 days a week. I am very thankful that everything I do is related to dance in one way or another which allows me to share my love for dance even more. My efforts however are still not enough.
Upon being selected one of 30 BFA Dance students to attend Boston Conservatory at Berklee I was overwhelmed with gratitude and honestly in disbelief. This was my top school and I was in.
If you know me asking for help is not something I do often. In my journey to fund school by myself I have to ask for help. Anything will mean the world to me.
Attending Boston Conservatory at Berklee to further my dance education is more than just a 4 year program. This will allow me to become a better dancer, learner, teacher, and overall artist. My students are so important to me. Not only are they a reminder of why I started my journey. I care for them deeply. Always wanting to pass on as much knowledge as I can, so one day they'll be even better dancers than me. In regards to my personal dancing, my dream is to dance with a company and become a choreographer. Then once my physical body gives out I'd like to open my own studio.
Thank you for considering helping me out and taking the time to read my story. Anything will mean the world to me.
