Help Macky get a Diabetic Alert Dog

Hi, my name is Stephanie and I’m fundraising for my 10 year old daughter, Mackenzie. She was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on January 25, 2024. This came as a huge shock to us and has caused us to completely change our way of life. Our days now include counting carbs, weighing food, giving multiple insulin injections, and constantly checking her blood sugar. This new way of life brings new worries and fears. What if the alarm on my phone doesn’t go off? What if I sleep through my alarm? What if her CGM fails? A diabetic alert dog would be a life-saving tool in helping us to manage Mackenzie’s diabetes. The dog is trained to alert for a blood sugar drop or spike. We currently use a CGM monitor to track her blood glucose, but a diabetes alert dog can alert us if we have a malfunction. The dog is also able to alert us quicker than a medical device. Not only will this dog help with hypo or hyperglycemia, this new member of our family will also provide Mackenzie the emotional support she needs when she’s not with her family. Mackenzie is 10 years old, but has been forced to grow up quickly because of her lifelong disease. She will always have to rely and monitor her devices. Having a friend by her side to assist her with her highs and lows will be such a confidence boost for her and her family. Her 2 little sisters have also had quite the adjustment in their life due to their sister’s diagnosis. Mackenzie has been such a rockstar since her diagnosis and stay in the hospital, she is so deserving of this.
