Get Lucille Home to Alberta

Donation protected
Update: The MacMillan family was able to borrow and pool enough funds to get Lucille home to Alberta. The family sends their sincerest gratitude for those who have shared this fundraiser, donated, and offered their support during these times. Lucille continues to recover; now surrounded by family and no longer isolated.

This fundraiser will remain open in hopes to be able to reimburse the family members who have taken out loans to be able to get their mother, grandmother, great-grandmother; Lucille, back to Alberta. The opportunity arose thanks to a generous community member who offered the flight at a flat rate of $35,000 which was around $15,000 less than initially quoted.

Please continue to share to not only assist the family during this financial hardship, but to bring attention to the trials they had to go through to get their loved one home without the support of the Alberta Health System.

Story: On August 20, 2023 the glue to the MacMillan family, Lucille MacMillan suffered a Stroke while visiting family out east. She was airlifted to the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital where she underwent immediate treatment and surgery. She was transferred from Thunder Bay Regional Hospital to St. Joe's Care Rehabilitation Centre on September 13th where she continues to remain to date. She is facing a very long road to recovery and right now is having to face it in isolation away from her family. She should not have to face this recovery alone however; this medically necessary travel is not covered by our Alberta Health Care System and we desperately need her home as much as she wants to be home.

Her progress has been limited so far and the cost of family traveling back and forth, finding accommodations, and taking time off of work has been very stressful and financially draining. We want to get her home to Alberta, to a facility where she can continue rehabilitation and where we will be able to see her more regularly. Having family around her will make a huge impact on her recovery. She is unable to travel the distance home by car or commercial flight, leaving no alternative other than having to charter a private aeromedical flight. This comes with a large cost and we are pleading to our neighbors for your support in helping get Lucille home. We have been quoted an approximate dollar amount of $46,350 to have her medically transported from Thunder Bay, ON to Grande Prairie, AB.

Every dollar is a dollar closer to getting a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother back home to her family so she can heal in peace. We appreciate our community’s support during these very hard times. One dollar is a dollar closer to getting her home and any amount is greatly appreciated. We urge you to share this fundraiser as widely as possible and again, thank you for all of the support. Lucille is a proud woman and all of this would be devasting to her, but we really need to get her home.

A separate bank account has been set up to maintain funds raised. E-transfers are accepted directly, please contact a member of the MacMillan family to donate directly.
