Hi my name is Catriona and I am trying to raise funds for my son Lewis (11), to compete in the world dwarf games 2027 and donate to the Dwarf Sports Association Scotland.

Lewis has the condition Achondroplasia, the most common form of dwarfism. Around 30 children are born every year in the UK with this condition and over 80% are born to average height parents like ourselves. The condition effects their long bones meaning their arms and legs for example are shorter than an average height person's.

It can also lead to complications with the spine which Lewis as a baby had issues.

At 1 week old he stopped breathing as his top vertebrae compressed the spinal cord, at 3 weeks old he had surgery to remove that vertebrae.

He also has suffered with sleep apnoea needing Bipap ventilation till the age of three. This again is another common complication of the condition where air way is narrower, muscle tone is weaker and central apnoeaic episodes can occur.

Our Boy has come through so much we now try to embrace all opertunities avaialble to him as possible. The DSA (Dwarf sports association) have been an amazing charity allowing Lewis to try new sports and compete on a level playing field with his peers , something he cant generally do in date to day life at school and local clubs.

Annually he attends the National Dwarf games near Birmingham and 3 years ago he attended the last World Games in Köln Germany where he came back with a Bronze Silver and Gold medal (gold for swimming)

Next year we Desperately want to get him to experience the next world games being held in the Gold Coast Australia.

We also want to give back to DSA Scotland for all the support and opportunities this charity opened up for our son and our family as a whole.
