Hey y’all,
My name is Kofi Dadzie and I’m a freshman at UMass Boston. I’m starting up my second week of college and I’m loving it so far.
This past summer I competed in the Brave New Voices International Poetry Slam Festival (BNV) in San Francisco with Boston’s MassLEAP team, where we were 2017’s BNV Runner-up. I also had the opportunity to compete at the National Poetry Slam (NPS) in Denver with Boston’s House Slam team, where we placed 3rd out of 80 teams in the nation .
Both experiences were amazing and now I’m preparing to compete at the Individual World Poetry Slam (IWPS) in Spokane, Washington. I have the honor of representing The House Slam, a wonderful slam venue in Boston, and cannot wait to show up and show out at the competition.
At 18 years old, I am the youngest person ever to compete in all three competitions through House slam, and I am so grateful to the community that has cultivated my art, and allowed it to be what it is.
As wonderful as this opportunity is, I can’t get to Spokane without your help. I’m raising money to cover travel, living expenses, and registration fees. Y’all know I’m a broke college student artist person ( that’s 12 kinds of broke if we’re being real), so anything helps!
I hope that you’ll all open your hearts (and your wallets) and help support both me and my artistry as I prepare for my 3rd and final competition of this slam season
