Due to a string of unfortunate events, my 2 young kids & I have not been able to live in our home for over 2.5 years. 

In 2014 I inherited the house from my grandparents.  When I found out I was pregnant with baby number 2 in 2017, we decided that we would need more room.  We took out a home equity loan and hired one of 3 contractors who came recommended.  We were SO excited to be making our forever home exactly what we dreamt it would be!  Things were running fairly smoothly throughout the process, but then everything started going down hill when we failed our framing inspection.  We fired the contractor when things started getting worse instead of better.  I filed a claim against their insurance company, only to be told 100 days later that the policy doesn't cover the issues their client created.  I then consulted with a lawyer who was willing to help, as long as we could get a repair estimate from another contractor.  I brought in a structural engineer who flat out said "I don't get involved in litigation".  There were then 2 additional engineers who seemed to fall off the face of the earth after the initial consultation.  Without stamped blueprint drawings from an engineer or an architect, we are unable to get an estimate.  After countless dead ends, we lost hope.  Aside from the financial strains, the stress of the entire situation severely affected our mental health and lead to some other extremely unfortunate circumstances in our relationship, including being left to raise the kids alone--during a global pandemic, no less.  Thankfully, through the whole ordeal, the kids and I have been able to live with family, but I am now more determined than ever to get us back in our home.  I will do whatever it takes to give my kids the home they deserve!  This home has been in my family since the 1950's.  My mom grew up there, I grew up there, and my kids should be growing up there!!!
