Hi, my name is Kiah and I am organising this gofundme on behalf of our dear friend Julia Fulop.
As most of you know, Julia is a pivotal part of the Australian arts community. You may be her friend, have displayed your art in one of the many galleries she has curated or may know that she is one of the communities leading geometric artists.
For the better part of 2023 and 2024 Julia worked tirelessly towards creating a brand new collection of art in which she was beyond excited to share with the community during her first solo exhibition last November.
Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances and some unresolved issues regarding the venue Julia has been left with no choice but to seek legal advice and take legal action in order to get her entire collection of new artworks back safely with her. Without going into too much detail the venue in which she held her exhibition is witholding her entire collection. This is thousands of hours worth of work and thousands of dollars worth of materials.
Behind closed doors Julia is the full time carer for her mother who is detoiriorating at a rapid pace due to dementia which in itself is a full time job. Leaving Julia with no time to work, even on a casual basis. This means that Julia is struggling to afford the ongoing legal fees attached to getting her artworks back. Julia's art is her livelihood and while her art collection is being withheld there is no way for her to make enough money to pay the legal fees.
So here we are, many of us know that Julia is always fundraising for people within the community. Organising community raffles and go fund me's for people in need and for those closest to her sending groceries and small amounts of money when they are sinking.
Today I am asking the community to band together and do their best to assist us with raising $10,000 to help her continue her fight to get back what is rightfully hers. Julia has already paid $2,800 in legal fees and has been quotes another $4,260 for the next phase having been told by her solicitor last week that the court fees will be upwards of $20,000.
Julia has let me know that if we reach our target and her legal fees have been covered she would like to donate the remainder of the go fund me donations to BIG GROUP HUG which is the charity organisation she was raising money for on her exhibition opening night.
If you have made it this far, THANKYOU. Lets band together as a community and help Julia get back years worth of her work.
