Get Johnny Back on His Feet
On August 26th, my beloved father, best friend and an experienced kiteboarder, John Perez, had a terrible accident in Cancun, Mexico just a few hours after his arrival for a short holiday trip with my step mom (Michelle) and my little sister (Ella).
The accident was brutal and forever traumatic; An unexpected wind gust lifted him 15 feet high and threw him on the sand before immediately dragging him back in the water. Beach tourists and local lifeguards were able to rescue my dad out of the water and immediately administer CPR, however he suffered severe injuries on the left side of his body (broken humerus and multiple hip fractures) that required a total of 15 hours of surgeries. He was able to receive 3 metal plates and rods on his hip and shoulder bones, yet recovery time will be extremely lengthy and will require lots of costly physical therapy.
Unfortunately, the hospital system in Mexico did not accept his health coverage and we are now facing astronomical/life changing medical bills. I am opening this GoFundMe to help assist in covering a portion of his medical expenses while he and our family embark on a new norm of a lifestyle.
