A Hardworking Member of Our Community Needs Our Help

A week after getting her brand-new vehicle on the road, disaster struck— Jet’s car caught fire. She barely made it out in time, and by the time firefighters arrived, there was nothing left but a burned-out shell.

Jeanette Martin—or as we know and love her, Jet—is one of the hardest-working people you’ll ever meet. She juggles multiple jobs to make ends meet, and when she does have a free moment, she’s behind the camera—capturing the heart of our community, Gabriola Island. Whether photographing for the local paper, the Chamber of Commerce, or community events, she uses her talent to shine a light on our wonderful island. Some of it is paid, but much of it she’s done simply because she loves it.

Jet was so proud of her recently-purchased vehicle! In her own words, “I bought this new car, I honestly thought to myself how lucky I was to have such a nice vehicle for a change. I never thought I’d own such a nice car. It was short lived as I had to take the new car to the garage right away where it sat for 3 weeks getting a transmission hose fixed. I’d had it back less than a week when it caught fire as I was driving home. I barely got out with my phone and keys before it became a fireball."

Insurance only covered the basics, not the cost of towing and disposal, and there’s no payout to help replace her car. And without a vehicle, getting to work—let alone taking photos for the community—becomes nearly impossible.

Helping others is in Jet's DNA, so now we want to return the love!

Jet has never been one to ask for help, so we’re keeping this fundraiser confidential until we can present her with a cheque. Our goal is to raise $4,000 to help her get a reliable car and get back on her feet.
