I started this GoFundMe because Angelique and Franco have given me and people like me a place I wouldn't have otherwise. I wanted to help. In their gratitude for the initial donations they wanted to tell you their story... so they sent me the following.
“Jestr?”
Allow us to explain.
We had our “soft open” of “Jestr Content House”, in April and before we could officially open our doors, they were SHUT by the Township of New Brunswick. It became apparent, a phone call was made attempting to report illegal goings on, in our VERY legal and VERY legitimate space, The Content House, to our city’s great fire marshal, respectively. After speaking with town officials, not only was this false “report” a waste of tax payer dollars, but it was discovered that “The Content House” required a “change of use” in accordance with the city’s code. (This change of use must be approved by electricians, plumbers, contractors and our city’s building inspector, before we can OFFICIALLY OPEN The Content House to the public.
Since Jestr’s creation, we have been met with an overwhelming amount of love and support from our comedy community. Originally, we founded our organization as a comedians’ service to help performers move forward with their careers. Services including but not limited to, content creation, paid gigs, submission ‘tape’ recording, tour planning, headshots, album recordings, resume building, rehearsal space and group writing sessions, the list goes on! But now we know that Jestr is a part of something greater. That greatness lives in all of our ‘funny’ people who went from not having a collaborative space to grow, to knowing they now have the freedom to explore their incredible potential without exploitation, or harassment.
We refuse to allow the “gatekeepers” to continue starving the artists of what rightfully belongs to them. That’s why we’re here. We always say that The Content House is a place “For comedians by comedians.” When we ALL work together we ALL make it happen...Period!
Why should any of us wait for locked doors to open, when we can make our own door? And that’s just what we’re doing, all of us.

Here’s the thing…
When the fire marshal was called (yeaaah, we know) he said we couldn’t continue with business as usual in the space until the change of use was complete (who knew putting a couple of folding chairs in a room requires inspectors, architects, plumbers, and electricians!) We are almost there. And to those of you who have helped us get closer, THANK YOU. We are truly overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity.
“how long till you guys are up and running?”
We get this question A LOT.
It’s been taking us longer than expected BUT WE ARE STILL HERE AND WE ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE. The delay has been the challenges we’ve encountered along the way and just when we think we’ve conquered the process, there’s always another bump in the road. But we are so close, so very very close!
We’ve had so many of you reach out to offer support and we couldn’t be more appreciative. We couldn’t be more eager to make this happen soon. And we will!
