Get Jarrod out of Detention

Hi, my name is Lauren I am Jarrod's Partner and have been for 17 years. If you know anything about me you know I am not one to ask for help, so to go as far as this means we are in real need of that right now.

For those of you who know Jarrod, is to love him.

You know he is the most genuine, caring, supportive and humble man there is and to hear he has been detained flying in from work, his Visa cancelled and currently sitting in a detention centre awaiting his fate is absolutely unimaginable.

Jarrod received letters from Home Affairs in June of 2020 informing him they were considering cancelling his Visa, Under the s501(2) Migration Act due to character grounds for supposedly being associated to gang members/ organised crime from one picture from a festival on Facebook dated back to 2016. We have been silently battling with this department for 5 years and if this person was of such bad character and such a threat to society, why have they waited so long to act?

How can you accuse someone of being involved in organised crime, when the only "crime" he has committed and has on his record is from 2014 for driving an unregistered vehicle that came with a $100 fine and was unaware he had said "conviction" when Home Affairs accused him of not declaring this information on his entry to Australia card when he returned from NZ after attending his step Fathers Funeral.

In April 2024, we received more documents from the department advising us to give more information. We engaged with a Lawyer and asked more friends, family and colleagues for character references. We obtained approximately 15 more.

15 more than the 14 we got from completely different friends, family and colleagues in 2020. We were then told, we do not require any further character references... when this whole case is regarding his character, what exactly is required then? We never received an answer.

What those references would have told them is that Jarrod works for a completely different company and has taken on a Supervisor's position. That his colleagues from Offsiders to Management all believe he is a man of integrity and great character. Not one person has a bad word to say about him nor can they believe of anyone, it is he who is in this position.

We have since found out Jarrod's Father is actually an Australian Citizen and Jarrod should have been able to get Citizenship by Descent - Thank you Border Force for picking up on this! I have hauled ass to get this visa application completed and sent off, I am working on getting him a bridging visa to get him out of Yonga Hill and for shits n giggles I am going to try an appeal the decision because at this point... why not?

With all that being said (and trust me, there is a lot more I could say) We need help.

We are having to sell our prized possession that unfunnily enough, we have recently paid off, to try and help us see this through because one thing we are not, are people who don't go down without a fight... just not physical ones because those justifiably are a threat to the Australian community.

We have been backed into a corner and for the first time in our Adult lives, we are asking for help to try and get us out of this.

I have written and rewritten this part so many times because I DONT KNOW HOW TO ASK FOR HELP! So, if you have a little to spare (I just burst into tears even writing that) we would be eternally grateful for it. If you have any advice, know a Lawyer who wants to see 2 Kiwis trying to make a life for themselves in Aussie see Justice prevail for a fraction of their normal price, a rage room - anything that may help, please I am all ears.

If it does not work in our favour, It will go towards sending our Rottweiler and 4 Cats back to the Motherland - New Zealand, which alone has been quoted at $11,000 and to fill half a shipping sea container with our belongings so we have some possessions to start over with.
