Get James to Spokane

Hi, my name is Meg and I am trying to get my best friend James out of a dangerous and abusive situation.

James is multiply disabled and lives in Indiana. She has almost no resources available to her and is trapped in a severely dangerous living situation with her abusive brother.

James has had an unstable living situation her whole life. Her mother had severe struggles with schizophrenia that took a massive toll on James' own mental health. Tragically, her mother committed suicide in January of 2020, and as everyone is aware, the COVID-19 pandemic started soon after this time.

After struggling with further mental and physical health issues and grief, James was able to find employment in 2021, but after being badly injured at work, her employer improperly handled her worker's comp case which led to her being let go in early 2022. She was finally able to return to work in 2023 and is currently still working, but her job is physically grueling and takes a toll on her body. In addition to this, she has also been harassed by her landlord and baselessly threatened with eviction all throughout 2023 and 2024.

Due to her disabilities, James is unable to drive. There are almost no sidewalks and no reliable public transportation in her city, meaning she is completely trapped to the radius she can walk within, which basically only includes her work and her abusive home environment. She has no means of accessing better work opportunities and is not even able to leave the house for entertainment purposes due to the extremely high cost of transportation.

All of this would be difficult enough to deal with, but on top of all of it, James' brother has physically assaulted her on multiple occasions and emotionally and verbally abuses her nearly every single day. She does not have any reliable family she can turn to for support or safety.

We have been planning for some time now to move James to Spokane, WA where me, my partner, and my family reside. James will have a much better support system here where she can start to heal from all the things she has had to go through, free of her brother's abuse and violence and with better access to resources and employment opportunities. However, moving is incredibly expensive, particularly in today's economy, and we need some help to get her here.
