Get James rolling with a powered wheelchair addon

Hi, I'm James I have Becker Muscular Dystrophy, I currently use a manual wheelchair but due to ongoing muscle weakness in my arms I struggle to self propel so now I am fundraising for a powered add on for my manual wheelchair to allow me to get my independence back rather than relying on the help of others.

Becker Muscular Dystrophy is a rare neuromuscular condition that causes progressive weakness and wasting of the skeletal and cardiac muscles.

My condition never really affected me I used to go hiking, rock climbing, kayaking and swimming until I was in my mid twenties. As I have gotten older my mobility has worsened, it has drastically gotten worse over the last 2 years and now find myself transitioning from being ambulant with the help of a walking stick to an ambulant wheelchair user to now the current situation where I am facing becoming a full time wheelchair user.

I have had to give up activities that were good for my mental health as well as the job I was so passionate about. Being allowed to explore and get lost in the Cornish countryside is something I have been dreaming about since the loss of my mobility and with the help of a power add on for my wheelchair I hope this could be possible once again.

Not only for my benefit but for my family and friend's benefit allowing me to socialise with them, make memories with and to create adventures with all those who are close to me. Just something simple like being able to go and grab a glass of wine or coffee with friends unaided would mean so much to me.

I know money is tight for everybody right now, but whatever you can give will be gratefully received and treasured or even just a share of the link would be of great assistance to me.

The power add on I'm currently looking at buying is £4650 plus the cost of a wheelchair hoist (at least a £1000) to allow me to load my wheelchair into my car with no help and will in turn allow me to be completely independent. Even if it is only partially funded I will be in a better position than I am currently.
