ISHMAEL'S FUNDRAISING STORY: HELP FOR SURGERY AND TREATMENT OF FACIAL DEFORMITY
Ishmael Tonto, a helpless 43 year old shoemaker in Kumasi - Ghana, West Africa.
He urgently needs your help!! Ishmael has a facial deformity which has progressed exponentially into a massive vascular malformation over the years. It started as a small facial scar on his right cheek and no one expected it to grow into this. Financial constraints have limited Ishmael from seeking medical attention to diagnose the cause of this deformity.
Agape Incorporated, a music and evangelistic group in Kumasi, Ghana chanced on Ishmael during one of their community outreach programs. At the effort of the group, Ishmael has undergone a series of examinations and surgeons have confirmed that the deformity can be corrected.
Dr. Kofi Boahene, Professor of Otolaryngology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (USA) http://foundationforspecialsurgery.org/ and his team will be travelling to Ghana to perform the facial surgery at Focus Orthopaedic Hospital in April 2021. The procedure entails an 8 hour surgery in two parts: Radica resection of malformation, Microvascular facial reanimation and near total facial reconstruction (removing the entire mass down to normal check bone and re-create a new half face and lip with a transplant). Estimated recovery of 7 days in-patient and 3 months out patient follow ups.
The estimated cost is £30,000. Agape Incorporated have raised £5,000 but need your support for the remaining £25,0000 (US$30,000) to help Ishmael live a normal life again. A promising teenager, passionate about football now struggles with everyday essential functions like seeing, eating, breathing and totally alienated by society with no friends. This is a great cause that will change and improve Ishmael’s quality of life considerably.
